V & T is in Morningside Heights just below Columbia University and across from the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine. They started serving the neighborhood casual Italian food and pizza in 1945. They have a loyal following, but we found the pizza to be average at best.

They serve pizza by the pie only and the 14” small starts at $11. The pizza is regular pizzeria style and nothing special. The mozzarella cheese is a bit dry and not of the greatest quality, but there is lots of it. The crust is a little hard to chew and also bland. The sauce is filled with garlic – not necessarily a bad thing.

V & T is a place where Columbia students can take their parents but the slice around the block at Koronet on Broadway is better.

I firmly disagree – V&T is excellent and the people who work there have been there for years and are extremely nice. Consistently polite service is a rare commodity in the rush-rush culture we live in today, as is any business which can last on the Upper West Side as long as V&T has these days. I have been an neighborhood resident for over 30 years and remember when Koronet first appeared. I made a recent visit to Koronet on a whim and it was overpriced and doughy adn took forever. I have no idea why their prices have skyrocketed as their pizza is certainly nothing to leave your home to purchase! For the same effect but smaller slice, you can go to the bland Famiglia pizza shop on 96th & Amsterdam.
