Sonoma Restaurant and Wine Bar – Washington, DC

Located on a happening strip in Capital Hill, Sonoma is a few doors from the popular, but overrated We, The Pizza. Sonoma is a full service restaurant and they are not all about the pizza, which turns out to be a good thing. In fact, we recommend eating here, but don’t order the margherita pie.

The pizza at Sonoma changed not too long ago. Either that, or PizzaSnobo and his buddy, the Future Senator of Bethesda, came on a really weak night. The margherita ($12) is served with a house made mozzarella, which was a little gummy and didn’t fully melt. The dough was soft and soggy and we were also disappointed by the very light sauce. Other items on the menu are better and we hope we either came on an off night, or Sonoma will continue tweaking their pizza. Because even if you add toppings or build your own, it often starts with the margherita.

Bring a date. Enjoy the people watching. We’ll be giving Sonoma another try at some point. And while we’re there, we’ll double check whether We, The Pizza is still too salty.
