Potenza – Washington, DC

Potenza serves some of the better pizza in Washington DC. The bar is spacious and can stay filled for most of the night. The restaurant is large as well, but pleasant and a good place for families and groups. Bringing a date is fine, but while Potenza is a nice place, it’s not the hippest restaurant in town.

The pies at Potenza ($14) are more filling than your usual personal pizza. The crust is thin and crispy and reminded us of good New York pizza. We also liked the homemade cheese, which has a soft melt-in-your-mouth consistency. The sauce was a little over-spiced but we liked that we could taste it in every bite. Potenza also serves pastas and other Italian dishes.

Expect to wait, especially on weekends, but the staff is friendly and we like the bar. Potenza also has a separate bakery and wine store.
