You enter Pizzeria Orso through the glass doors of an office building. The restaurant is large and airy with a décor that has the feel of a suburban chain eatery, minus the buzzers to tell you when your table is ready. There is also an outdoor section, which is pleasant enough at first look, but after sitting for five minutes, we were driven inside by the bugs.

Orso does a Margherita pizza DOC ($13) right. The sauce is some of the best we’ve had in the DC area. (They probably use twice as much as 2 Amys and still we wanted more). The rich, almost sweet bufala bakes in just right. We also liked that the basil is cooked in, rather than tossed on top as an afterthought. The crust was a pleasure as well. Not too soggy with a little bit of char. The lip is especially tasty, crunchy on the outside, but soft and chewy inside. There are plenty of other toppings to choose from, as well as a make-your-own option. Orso might not be as gourmet as 2 Amys or Pacci’s, but their Margherita delivers.

Bring the family. Meet friends or take your significant other. And save room for a cannoli, a treat we don’t see often enough traveling outside of NYC!
