Pizzeria da Marco has made living the suburban life in Bethesda a little bit better. It’s nothing fancy, but the restaurant does Neapolitan pizza right. Calling their pizzas DOP rather than DOC (not much difference but you can read a limited pizza glossary at Slice), da Marco uses top notch ingredients like locally sourced tomatoes and mozzarella di bufala.
Pies at da Marco ($12.50) are among the best in the DC Metro area. (We haven’t yet awarded 6 Slices to a pizzeria inside the District.) The bufala was fresh. The sauce plentiful. The crust had a mild sourdough flavor and was chewy and nicely charred. Not too soggy, but not crunchy either. We also like that da Marco takes the time to bake in the basil. Generally, toppings are pretty standard fare. We’d also recommend ordering a calzone – but make sure you’re hungry.
Pizzeria da Marco also has a big bar and is a good place to catch a ball game.
