Lil’ Frankie’s Pizza – New York, NY

The East Village has had a little pizza boom as of late and Lil’ Frankie’s fits right in. Opened by the same owners as the fun and delicious Italian restaurants Frank and Supper, Lil’Frankie’s is not so little with multiple rooms, including a pretty garden. The décor is colorful and festive and it is a quiet place to go for lunch.

The 10 inch pies ($12.95) are good but not great. (The lasagna and Frank is great!) The cheese was sliced thin in the style of many gourmet pizza restaurants, but it was too bland and didn’t take the pizza to the next level. The dough is soft and chewy, more filling than other pizzas of the same size that we’ve tried. We would have liked a little more sauce, regardless of what pizza-aficionados might have to say on the matter. Specialty pies like the Pizza Polpettine with tasty mini meatballs and an even higher grade of mozzarella will make Lil’ Frankie’s a destination.

Give it a try and see how it fits in with your favorite pizza restaurant.
