What we seem to be lacking in NY are pizza places with their own brewery and outdoor seating. Okay, maybe Kona is more like a brewery/pub that serves pizza, but we are still happy snobos. The Kailua Kona location can be a little tricky to find. It is at the very end of Pawai Place through the industrial area of Kailua. The Oahu location lacks the brewery, but is located in the Koko Marina Center in Hawaii Kai.

The small pie for $11 is 10 inches. This is plenty for one person as the crust is thick and doughy. The pizza here reminds us of something between a Chicago style and what our grandmother might make on a Sunday afternoon. The crust is on the thick side but it is chewy and has a great taste with a well done bottom. Just under the cheese and sauce, the crust is nice and gooey while the rest of the crust is airy and light. The sauce is also tasty and there is plenty of it. The sauce is thick and bursting with fresh, sweet tomatoes. They also add shredded (not grated) parmesan reggiano cheese on top, though it does not get baked into the pie.

Our one complaint is the heavy use of oregano on top of the cheese. We feel it is not necessary and should be left to individual pizza snobos to add if desired. Otherwise, the pizza is yummy. Be sure to get a sampler of brews as well!
