Ella’s Wood Fired Pizza – Washington, DC

Ella’s is close to the Verizon Center in DC, an area surrounded by chain stores like it’s a mini version of Times Square. Good food is usually the exception in such neighborhoods, however we were hoping for the best at this friendly local spot. PizzaSnobo came to Ella’s with a few other New Yorkers, including Mrs. Snobo and our friends, the Dance Snobos. Unfortunately, everyone at the table was disappointed.

The regular pie ($12.95) includes bufala, which was so thin you could barely taste it. The crust is also thin and boring and the pizza didn’t have nearly enough sauce. The gluten free version with mushrooms fell far short of what it could have been. Even the song selection threw us: Bon Jovi?

Choices nearby are few, so Ella’s might suit for an after-work gathering, or to meet before going to the Verizon Center. The restaurant isn’t as crowded as some of the others and the service is friendly. Still, we’re beginning to understand why DC folks are so fond of 2 Amys.
