Da Nico – New York, NY

Ask someone who works in Little Italy where to find the best personal pie and there’s a good chance they’ll say, Da Nico. It might not be on par with nearby Nolita spots like Lasso, Emporio or Rustica, but if your plan is to eat in Little Italy, Da Nico could be your place.

The light, thin crusted pies ($8.25) are well priced. Da Nico uses a brick oven and lets the pizza toast to make it crispy, unlike the soft, fluffy style of the many Neapolitan restaurants that have opened in New York. The thinly sliced mozzarella cheese at Da Nico is good and they use just the right amount. Da Nico even shaves some basil on top, though if they baked it in for a minute or two it would have been even better. The sauce was passable but probably the weakest part.

If you are planning a dinner in Little Italy and want pizza, check them out.
