California Pizza Kitchen – Multiple Locations

by PizzaSnobo on March 4, 2011

If you live near a mall – or a grocery store for that matter – you have heard of California Pizza Kitchen. They exploded onto the scene more than two decades ago and they’ve never looked back. Who would? With toppings like buffalo chicken, Japanese eggplant, pineapple, goat cheese chipotle and much more, they’ve helped to take pizza dining to a whole new level. So what if the snobs out there say it’s not real pizza, the kids love it – and CPK is probably healthier than the Cheesecake Factory.

Concept and success story aside, CPK pizza fresh from the restaurant doesn’t taste much better than their frozen version. Ten inch pies ($9.99) have a thin chewy crust with minimal crunch. The dough is sweet and so is the sauce – another reason the kids like it. As for the cheese, it’s your average pizzeria variety and oily at that.

Unlike our previous post about Rubirosa, one of the best pizzerias in the country, we can’t really say which is the best part about a CPK pie, because none of it is particularly good. Guess that’s why they keep adding buffalo chicken on top.
