Pizza slice from Brooklyn Brick Oven Pizza New JerseyBBOP first opened in Hackensack in 1993 but its pizza legacy can be traced back to the early 1900’s. The owners of BBOP got started with help from their Uncle Patsy Grimaldi, founder of Grimaldi’s from Brooklyn and hence the name. Uncle Patsy is the nephew of Patsy Lancieri of the infamous Patsy’s Brick Coal Oven Pizzeria in Harlem. BBOP is keeping up with the family tradition of coal fired ovens, cash only service and red & white checkered tablecloths.

Brooklyn Brick Oven Pizza Restaurnat New Jersey RestaurantThey do not serve slices here but we were pleased to see personal pies (approx 8”) for $6.50. The tomato and cheese pie is made with imported tomatoes from Italy, homemade mozzarella and grated Locatelli brand pecorino romano cheese. The mozzarella is fresh and simply some the best around. The plum tomato sauce is generous and applied after the cheese. The sauce is fresh with a little tanginess. The crust is a bit gummy but fair.

The small sized pizza for $14.50 is about twice the size of the personal pie, making the personal a better a deal.
