Angelo’s is one of the overlooked pizzerias in New York, but you should go there now! The restaurant opened in 1998, but considering their pedigree (Patsy’s and Nick’s of Forest Hills), Angelo’s is serving old-guard style pizza. See Angelo’s own Press page for a roundup of some of New York’s pizza families.

Pies at Angelo’s come in 12” ($15) and 16” ($17). Thin and crispy. Thick, rich sauce, and plenty of it. Fresh cheese sliced thin with a hint of sharpness. This is some gooood pizza. The only thing we wanted was for the basil to be cooked in. The menu has plenty of non-pizza choices as well, served in individual sizes and Family Style.

Better than the Patsy’s chain and the Upper East original, Angelo’s should be on everyone’s pizza list. And if you work nearby, it’s a great place to meet for lunch.
