Vace Italian Deli – multiple locations

Multiple locations

Vace can be found in both Bethesda, as well as in Cleveland Park, across from the movie theater. It is very much a deli and pizza is not necessarily the main event here, as they specialize in Italian hero sandwiches and homemade pastas like cannelloni, agnelotti and of course ravioli, which are made fresh then placed into their freezers. There’s nowhere to sit, so think of Vace as a take-out place more than anything else.

The pizza slices ($1.87) are small and very sweet and the sauce is placed on top of the cheese, which probably explains why so many Washington DC residents like this place so much. The crust is thin and crisp, tasting almost like a cookie. The sauce is also quite sweet and there’s plenty of it, making it the most powerful element of the slice. There is a thin layer of cheese, which makes for a nice texture without being too gummy.

Aside from the plain pie, choices are limited and not very daring with standard fare like mushrooms and pepperoni. Still, it’s probably the best slice in Washington, DC.
