Sal, the affable owner of Rosario’s pizza located on the corner of Stanton and Rivington Streets may have taken some license when he put up his sign claiming “the best pizza in town since 1963″. Still, they must be doing something right. You wont find any airs of pretense when you enter this corner pizza joint, but good ingredients and years of refining the recipe have yielded a darn good slice.

You can taste the olive oil in these thin crust slices ($2.50). The tomato sauce is a little muted, while the stringy mozzarella cheese is applied in a measured fashion as not to overpower the slice. The result is an orchestrated balance of ingredients that resonates in a way most slice joints only wish they could achieve.

Next time you find yourself barhopping or listening to bands in the Lower East Side, swing by Rosario’s for a quick snack. It’s not gourmet, it’s not fancy, but chances are you wont be disappointed.
