Welcome to NYC and the quintessential pizza dive serving up classic slices. There is nothing pretty about this place but the busy lunch crowd in a not so busy part of town is always a good sign. Good pizza is harder to find these days and Pizza Pete’s was a nice surprise.

At first look at the dark brown bottom, we thought the crust was a bit over cooked on this slice ($2.50). But tasting by sight is not always a true indication of taste. The crust has a great balance of crisp and chew and tastes great. If you lift the cheese, you might get a free facial from the steam, but you’ll also notice the top of the crust to be moist with no signs of red sauce as it seems to have blended into the cheese. The sauce and cheese are both good (and light) but the crust is really what stands out here.

In an area with not too many options, Pizza Pete’s is a good choice, but don’t expect friendly service here. They also need to literally clean up their act based on their recent Department of Health inspection.
