PizzaSnobo knows Bleecker Street better than we probably should, but that’s what you get when you are based in Greenwich Village. Pizza Box is located in a touristy stretch of Bleecker, but there are plenty of locals too and this place is better than it looks. With places nearby like Joe’s, John’s, Keste and Bleecker Street Pizza all within easy walking distance, Pizza Box has managed to stand pretty firm, albeit dingy, since 1957.

The slices ($2.75) and specialty pies at Pizza Box look good when they’re fresh, delivering a solid New York experience. The sauce is probably canned, the cheese is fine and melts well, and the crust is crispy and better than average. The pizza can be a little oily but overall the slices have a good texture. It’s not a place we highly recommend, but you could do worse (hello Ben’s!).

Pizza Box delivers so give them a try if you live nearby. They also used to have decent chicken parmesan heroes in a part of town where a good version of this dish is hard to find.
