This was the first pizzeria in Philly that we reviewed and it was a disappointment. Located in a pretty neighborhood that’s easy walking distance from Center City, Pine Street seems to garner better reviews than it should.

The cheese barely melts and the thick crust; light, crunchy and greasy is not a NY style slice or Sicilian style. Call it Greek if you want, but it’s a step above frozen. We were fine with the sauce, which is thick and sweet and the slices ($2.50) have a good sauce-to-cheese ratio . Pine also serves chicken wings, though we didn’t sample any. (Have to watch our waistlines.)

Pine is a nice clean restaurant, they use fresh ingredients and the price is right. If you really need a pizza fix Pine will do – though keep an eye on their Dept of Health inspections – but there is better food in Philly to be had.
