Pete’s Pizza Joint is in Old City, near Second Street. The day we went to this small restaurant it was the start of Hurricane Irene. The guy behind the counter – Pete? – didn’t seem to mind. And as it turns out, the storm didn’t do much damagein his neighborhood.

Slices ($2.50) are light with a nice crunch and texture and a good sauce-to-cheese ratio. We were happily surprised with the overall product. The sauce, cheese and crust were all fine, but there is a forth category that PizzaSnobo looks at; how it all meshes together. In Pete’s case, the ingredients come together very well indeed. There’s nothing gourmet here, but this is one of the better slices in the neighborhood.

Pete’s serves solid, regular pizza of the sort that is much harder to find than it used to be. And how can you not love a restaurant with the name ‘joint’ in it?
