Palisades Pizzeria & Clam Bar – Washington, DC

Palisades has done a good job of capturing the feel of a NY or NJ pizzeria. For a moment this part of town even made us feel like we were on the south shore of Long Island. A variety of pies are displayed behind the glass counter. This is the way it’s supposed to be done, rather than having the pizza spinning on a tray under a heat lamp. Slices at Palisades even look like NY Style, albeit on the large side. They’re also pushing hot dogs. But hey, you can’t get everything right.

Slices are expensive at $3.50. The crust is crispy and probably a reason many like this place. However, the crust was also too dry, crumbling as we ate. The cheese is typical of what you’ll find at many spots up north. We could also have used about double the sauce.

All-in-all, Palisades has one of the better slices in DC. It might not be as good as sweet slice spot Vace, but it’s better than most competitors and on par with the popular We,The Pizza.
