If you had your heart set on a slice of Artichoke pizza but couldn’t take the forty minute line, try going around the corner to Muzzarella Pizza, located on Avenue A between 13th and 14th Streets. It’s a small, neat place with tight seating for 10 or so patrons and serves tasty $2.25 slices.

The thin crust is admirably crisp considering it is barely browned on the bottom, testament to a good hot oven. The crust however would benefit of a touch of salt added to the recipe. The sauce is slightly sweet and applied liberally. The cheese is also of good quality and neither too abundant or scarce. All together this creates a nicely balanced pizza that finishes slightly sweet owing to the sauce.

The bottom line is that this is a good neighborhood pizzeria. And if you’re in the mood for something a little different, try the Pesto slice. At $2.75 it’s a tasty and economical alternative to the rightfully ballyhooed offering from Artichoke.
