La Traviata is a hole-in-the-wall pizzeria between Broadway and Columbus Avenue. Normally, the display of empanadas is our signal to go elsewhere, but the Lincoln Center area is in short on very good pizza.

The slice ($2.71) is your average sized NYC pizza. The crust is thin and nicely crisped, but we do not like that they use cornmeal, a trend that probably started after Two Boots, who should be the only ones allowed to do it. In the case of La Traviata, the result is a strange, gritty crust. The sauce and cheese are both a little sparse. We also found the pizza too salty.

Good to grab a fast slice, and not as heavy as Francesco’s around the corner. We like the option of Mexican bottled, sans HFCS, Coca-Cola.
