L & B Spumoni Gardens opened over 70 years ago, but it is unclear when grandpa first started serving pizza here. Today they are known for putting the sauce on the top of their sicilian slices. But their “Round Slice” is also good, although we’ve never actually seen a round shaped slice. This mass production pizza factory is near the beach – reminding us of Mack & Manco’s at the Jersey Shore – and has lots of family friendly seating outside. The only thing missing are coin operated rides.

The regular slices ($2.25) use a blend of cheeses and has a good overall flavor, as if this gooey pizza was baked twice. The crust is thin and crispy, though still manages to be a little limp and flops on folding. The sauce is light with a nice tanginess to it. The regular slice doesn’t have that soft undercooked style of the sicilian, but for the price, you can get a few of each.

While it’s a solid pizzeria, Spumoni Gardens is not worth a trip unless you’re already in the area. If you are, stop by to grab a quick one, bring the family, or take the team after a Little League game – win or lose.
