Gino’s Pizza – Ventnor, NJ

Gino’s pizza is two blocks from the beach, right next to the popular and delicious breakfast joint called Hanna G’s. Gino serves classic slices, the kind most of us grew up with, and the pizzeria is clean and spacious. Across the street is a sister restaurant – or should we say brother – Uncle Gino’s. The owners are the same and so is the pizza. The difference is that Uncle Ginos also serves more traditional Italian fare like ravioli and chicken cacciatore and seeks to be more of a restaurant than a pizzeria, especially in the evenings.

Plain slices ($2.68) are of the heavier, oversize variety, meaning just one can make a meal. There’s too much mozzarella cheese that doesn’t seem to want to melt all the way through – like soft bits of plastic. Gino’s does have a good sauce-to-cheese ratio, which is important, especially since we like our red sauce!

Lots of people love Gino’s, but compared to the really good places, we found it to be barely average.
