Caruso’s Pizza is two blocks from the beach in the south part of Ventnor, near Marvin Gardens. Monopoly anybody? The good news is this small pizzeria is the kind of place this beach town needs; a simple slice joint serving very good NY style pizza.

Slices at Caruso’s are strangely priced at $2.41 – that’s $2.25 plus tax. Such amounts are usually a warning sign for PizzaSnobo, but gladly in Caruso’s case the pizza delivers. Slices are thin and crispy with cheese that is chewy without being gummy. And they don’t pile on the mozzarella, unlike neighbor Gino’s, who serves a much heavier slice. The sauce at Caruso’s is better than average, though we think they can play with it over the winter and make it great. On the down side, the slices were too salty and a bit oily. Still, the pizza here is of the sort many of us east-coasters grew up loving.

Caruso’s is the best slice we’ve had so far in the area. And the guys behind the counter are stars in our book.
