Artichoke Pizza is the place to beat. This hole-in-the-wall gourmet pizzeria on 14th Street and First Avenue has almost no seats and the lines are forever long. Now, with a Chelsea location on 10th Avenue and 17th Street, there are tables, a bar and even an outdoor counter if you want to feel like you’re in the East Village.

Giant slices are practically a bargain ($4), considering the size and top shelf ingredients used, including four types of cheese. Just watch them make the pies and you’ll see big hunks of parmesan waiting to be melted down into a slice that is way at the top of the pizza game. Rich sauce covers the entire slice and the crust is crunchy throughout and on the thick side. It is a little oily, but the PizzaSnobo really doesn’t care considering how awesome Artichoke is. Along with the margherita slices, which happen to bake in just the right amount of basil, the Sicilian slices are about the best on the planet. And of course the signature artichoke slice is a must have as well.

One slice is plenty for a meal, but order two or three anyway, because it’s that good.
