Angelico Pizzeria – multiple locations

Multiple Locations

This growing chain is located in Washington DC, as well as in Fairfax, Bethesda and Odenton, MD. We heard some positive things about Angelico and were looking forward to a slice in the DC area that was actually great. (Aside from Vace, no DC slices have yet reached “5 Slices.”) We ate at two locations, first on U Street for a jumbo slice ($5.50), then for a more manageable size slice ($3) at the popular Glover Park outpost. Unfortunately, Angelico let us down both times.

The regular sized slice was on the thicker side of the spectrum, but lacked crunch and was too dry. The low moisture mozzarella is on par with your average pizzeria (at best), and its flavor was minimal. Angelico’s sauce also needs work, as it was watery, too sweet and there was not enough of it, further contributing to the overall dryness of this pizza. Angelico’s is also known for big calzone’s, which the American University students probably pound like beers.

When we asked the Glover Street location about the U Street spot, they told us those guys weren’t following the rules quite so much. Since neither of the pizzas we had were very good, we encourage all the experimenting you like.
