Alberto’s – Washington, DC

Alberto’s in Dupont Circle is directly across the street from Pizza Paradiso, but these places are most definitely two different meals. Bowls of shelled peanuts along the counter at Alberto’s is a friendly touch, but there are no stools available, so most people aren’t staying for longer than the time it takes to gulp down one of the large slices.

The pizza at Alberto’s is unlike any of the slice joints that we’ve had in the city, though it does remind us of Matchbox, a popular restaurant that Washingtonians and tourists flock to. At $4.68 per “1/4 pie slice” Alberto’s pizza is neither NY style, nor a typical gloopy jumbo slice that can be found all over the DC area. The slices are thin and soft, the sauce is a little spicy and the pizza is cooked in a stone oven with the cheese browned on top.

Alberto’s is one of the better places for slices in Washington DC we have been to. Call them and have a pie delivered. The whole wheat version is also good.
