Abitino’s has half a dozen locations in NYC, including JFK Airport (terminal 8). They are dedicated to typical pizzeria fare, including calzones, heros and pasta. Kind of a of a mini-Sbarro. Unfortunately, at the Upper East Side location, the pizza wasn’t much better.
Slices ($2.25) came out cool, after they reheated it in the oven. The cheese was dry and remarkably average. The sauce wasn’t much better. The best part was the crust, mainly because it folded well and had crunch. Maybe the other Abitino’s are better, but this location was a disappointment.
If you want a good slice of pizza, go half a block to Gino’s on 83rd.
