If you’re on the West Side in the Thirties and you’re looking for pizza that is a little more upscale than Suprema, then Lazzara’s is your bet. Walk upstairs and go back in time. Along with local neighborhood style Italian menu (specializing in pizza, of course), Lazzara’s also has a counter where you can grab one of their square, thin slices ($2.40). A second location is also open in Hell’s Kitchen (which unfortunately fell into “C” territory at their last Dept. of Health Inspection).

Lazzara’s pizza is thin and light, which means that supersize-loving people are going to have to order extra. But considering how good the texture is, you’ll want to keep eating. The layer of cheese is also thinly applied and comes out nicely browned. The sauce is not too sweet and keeps things pleasantly moist, but didn’t stand out quite enough for us. Taken as a whole, Lazzara’s is really good pizza that probably hasn’t changed in years.

Lots of restaurants make claims about their food, but when Lazzara’s says they have the “best thin crust pizza in the Garment District,” we agree.

Health Dept Rating: 38th Street location – N/A

Health Dept Rating: 9th Avenue location – C
