Located near the original Patsy’s, La Nuestra in East Harlem probably serves the best and most consistent slice in the area. The restaurant is your typical hole in the wall pizzeria, though on the dingy side. Before it was La Nuestra, the location was a Rays. In terms of ingredients and style of pizza, not a lot has changed.

La Nuestra slices ($2.25) are thick, but not overly greasy or too heavy with cheese. The low moisture mozzarella melts fine. The sauce is canned, or it needs an overhaul. Still, it all came together in a decent enough slice. Turnover is good here so the ingredients stay fresh. They’ll also do giros and omelets. Thankfully there’s no salad bar.

La Nuestra might also want to think about updating to playlists or satellite radio. The Lite FM station playing just didn’t quite fit in.

Unfortunately, they did poorly on their last health inspection text. So you may want to steer clear for a while.
