Burrata Pizza New York, NYThe upper west side has a new pizza addition with the opening of Burrata Bakery and Pizza Bar. Burrata is serving a variety of individual sized Neapolitan pizzas as well as some breads and baked goods. The large brick oven is fired by both gas and wood.

The margarita ($10) is approximately 12” and looks very similar to Olio’s but they haven’t perfected it yet. The pie comes with clumps of mozzarella, sprinkled parmesan, basil, olive oil and a fairly good san marzano tomato based sauce. The mozzarella is on the bland side and releases too much water while baking, making the pizza a little too soupy, even for this style. The crust is too thinBurrata Pizza Bakery Restaurant New York, NY for the moisture as well the oven’s high heat. The dough is too delicate for the bottom to build a nice texture before burning but the outside edge is better.

Burrata is not at the same level of some of the other gourmet pizza joints in the city, or even the nearby Patsy’s, nor does this place have much of a homey feel. To be fair, the chef does seem very determined to improve the pizza but Burrata is more of a grab a Neapolitan pie on the run place.
